Diagramming - Part I

Diagramming is a great way to learn sentence structure. It is especially helpful for visual children to see the relationship of words with one another in the sentence.

Diagramming shows the use of vocabulary according to its part of speech. Knowing a word’s part of speech clarifies the meaning the word.
One method of teaching diagramming would be to teach a particular part of speech when it is learned in each grade level. For example, first graders can learn nouns and pronouns, verbs and adjectives.

As they learn nouns and pronouns, a diagram gives the noun/pronoun a definite place on the line. The place on the line, tells the child that a noun or pronoun is a person, place or thing. It is a concrete object that does the action.
